Purpose: Give young adults a chance to learn how to cook wholesome food that’s affordable, in a supportive environment, interacting with volunteers and peers! !

When: Saturday, June 21, 2014, 9:00am to 12:30 pm
Where: Naka Lifelong Learning Center 名古屋市中区生涯学習センター (about seven minutes walk from Kamimaezu Station Exit #6)
Who: Young adults from any of our partner orphanages and volunteers. The room can accommodate up to 36 people

Groups will be formed and can watch myself and Rebecca prepare a meal. Then each group and volunteer assistant will prepare the same items at their workstations. Following the preparation is a chance to sit and eat the food we just made.

Setup: 9am-9:30am
Participants arrive: 9:30
Lesson and observation: 9:40
Students and volunteers prep and cook meals: 10:10-11:00
Eat and enjoy: 11:00 - 11:45
Cleanup, final check, QnA, chat: 11:45-12:30
Lock up and return key: 12:30

Ideas for food: Sautéed vegetables and meats; Spaghetti with vegetables and meat sauce.

Both of these courses provide a basic understanding of preparing meats and vegetables, balancing nutrition, affordability, availability, and a basis from which countless other combinations of food and ingredients can be made.

Budget: We anticipate a budget of about 700 yen in total food items per student, plus about 3000 yen for base materials (salt, pepper, oil, etc), plus 2400 yen to rent the kitchen room at the center.

Note: Of course an exact budget should be agreed upon. First let’s decide on which food to teach/ make/ eat. I will send a detailed food listing with pictures and prices this evening. Thank you!
